The Story
All that glitters has something to hide.

Hollywood, 1928. Sterling Pictures has invited its stars, business associates, and trusted confidantes to the Grand Majestic Theatre for the world premiere of Midnight Shadows. Celeste Monroe and Rafael Vega are the faces of the picture, but the people behind the camera have just as much riding on its success.
Studio chief Sterling Graves has invested in more than a film. His company depends on carefully managed reputations, private settlements, and secrets kept out of the newspapers. Producer Margaret Sinclair needs the premiere to succeed while a troubling production shortfall remains hidden. Director Samuel Reed has delivered the picture, but the arguments over its retakes and expenses have left their mark.
Celeste is preparing to reclaim control of her career. After the premiere, she intends to make an announcement about her contracts, her future, and decisions made in her name. Her plans threaten arrangements that others have worked hard to protect.
Beyond the studio, gossip columnist Vivian Chase trades in information, theatre owner Taylor Whitmore guards the private conversations held in his salons, and talent agent Morgan Bennett knows the vulnerabilities behind her clients’ public lives. Rafael’s own private troubles make him an easy target for suspicion.
Then a scheduled projection-light test plunges the gathering into darkness. Celeste is murdered, a familiar handkerchief appears at the scene, and a glamorous reception becomes an investigation. The guests must separate scandal from evidence and discover who turned everyone else’s secrets into a cover for murder.

The person behind the curtain
Morgan Bennett killed Celeste Monroe and framed Rafael Vega. Morgan knew the timing of the light test and took Rafael’s abandoned handkerchief to plant at the scene. The witness accounts establish Rafael’s alibi, while Morgan’s client file, altered contracts, and payment records expose the system of control Celeste threatened to reveal.
